On the afternoon of April 11, 2018, at the invitation of Liu Chunping, vice president of IDP and Liao Xin, associate professor of Department of Seismology, Professor Chi-yuen Wang of the University of California, Berkeley, visited IDP and gave an academic report entitled "Induced Seismicity and Groundwater Leakage in Oklahoma". President Yao Yunsheng,Vice President Liu Chunping, and some teahcers and students from the Department of Earthquake, Science and Disaster Prevention Engineering attended the report meeting.

Prof. Chi-yuen Wang, a tenured professor at the University of California, Berkeley, is an internationally renowned geologist and geophysicist, who has long been devoted to the study of active tectonics and the interaction between earthquakes and water. His research fields involve geology, geophysics, seismology, hydrology and other disciplines. He has made a lot of outstanding research achievements in these fields. It is a proof that he has published more than 100 SCI retrieval papers on Nature Communications, Geography, J.G.R. and other international well-known journals and his research achievements have high academic level and application value. Professor Wang uses statistical, numerical simulation and other methods to carry out quantitative research on a large number of observation facts, which makes up for the limitations of previous research due to the lack of research methods

In the academic report, Prof. Wang mainly talks about the cause of induced earthquake and its influence on groundwater through the example of induced earthquake in Oklahoma, USA. Specifically, the report includes the shale gas production process, the impact of water injection in the production process, the formation mechanism of tide, the tidal response mechanism and mathematical model of borehole water level, the detection method of underground sewage leakage and some case study.

Prof. Wang's report attracted lots of teachers and students.
